'Trapped at Work Act' Amended and Effective Date Delayed

Governor Hochul signed the 'Trapped at Work Act' (the Act) on December 19, 2025. As originally passed, the Act provides that employers can no longer require job candidates or employees to sign an 'employment promissory note' as a condition of employment, compelling the worker to reimburse employers for certain payments if they leave before a set time. The Act, as passed on December 19, 2025, was effective immediately; however, New York employers can now breathe a sigh of relief. With the passage of a chapter amendment to the Act on February 13, 2026 (the Amendment), the effective date is pushed back until December 19, 2026. Patrick Luke Awarded 2026 RMHC Community Service Award

Patrick Luke (Luke Photography) was awarded the 2026 Community Service Award by the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and the organizers of the annual Ronald McDonald House All-Star Basketball games. The boys and girls All-Star games celebrate high school senior basketball players, cheerleaders, coaches, and officials from Section V teams for the just-concluded basketball season. The annual all-star games are a major fundraiser for the Rochester Chapter of the Ronald McDonald House, which provides (at no cost) a home-away-from-home for families who have critically ill children that experience extended hospital stays at Rochester area hospitals.

Luke was honored for his years of volunteering photographic services for game participants' headshots for the annual game program, photographing the banquet honoring the participants, and for the thousands of photos taken during the boys' and girls' games and of the cheerleaders. The 41st annual All-Star games were held on March 25, 2026 at Gates-Chili HS.
